Description
Jal Neti is a nasal cleansing technique designed to flush away excess mucus, dust, pollen and other debris, supporting nasal hygiene, clearer breathing and everyday respiratory comfort.
The Jal Net Pot is specially designed for this purpose with a protruding spout which is inserted into the nostrils.
How to use
- Prepare safe water - Use clean water which is boiled and cooled to lukewarm temperature.
- Prepare saline water - Add roughly 1/2 a teaspoon of clean salt fully dissolved in half a litre of water.
- Stand over a sink, lean slightly forward, tilt the head to one side, and breathe through the mouth.
- Fill the Pot and rest the spout gently in the upper nostril to form a comfortable seal.
- Tilt the Pot so that the water flows in through the upper nostril and out through the lower one, for about 20 to 30 seconds.
- Remove the Pot, let residual water drain out, and repeat on the other side.
- Dry the nasal passages with gentle exhalations - avoid forceful nose-blowing.
- Perform Kapalbhati and Bhastrika Pranayama after doing Jal Neti. (Please exercise all precautions generally recommended for these two practices.)
Benefits
- Besides the many other general benefits, Jal Neti has the following benefits for those with diabetes. :
- By clearing both the nostrils, it leads to balanced breathing. This balances the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system which in turn leads to more effective digestion and metabolism.
- Jal Neti lowers stress which in turn inhibits the liver from releasing sugar into the bloodstream.
- Jal Neti leads to better sleep which improves blood sugar levels in multiple ways.
Precautions
- Use only boiled and cooled water.
- Use lukewarm water, never hot. Feel the water on your fingers before inserting it into the nostrils. Keep in mind that the fingers can tolerate more heat than your nostrils.
- Make sure the salt is fully dissolved in the water. Those with high blood pressure should avoid using salt and do Jal Neti with plain water.
- Do not force water through a blocked nostril, and avoid blowing the nose too hard afterward.
- People with recurrent nosebleeds should seek professional advice before doing Jal Neti.
- Stop and seek advice if Jal Neti causes persistent pain, bleeding, worsening symptoms or severe burning.
- People with recent nasal or sinus surgery should seek medical guidance before doing Jal Neti.
- Clean and dry the device between uses and never share a personal Jal Neti Pot.
